Felix the Reaper is a Delightfully Macabre Puzzle Game About Death

Most puzzle games aren’t weird enough. Sure, demanding new titles such as Legend of Solgard seem to shake up the match-three formula, though, a lot of puzzle games wind up focusing solely on mechanisms as opposed to world-building or storyline. While ’s all good and dandy, it’d be wonderful to find a brand new generation of puzzle games transgress the traditional boundaries of puzzle games and then push the genre into fresh, uncharted oceans.

Developed by Kong Orange, Felix the Reaper is a “romantic humor ” puzzle game where departure is your protagonist. During the course of the game, players control Felix, essentially a grim reaper, on his different assignments to bring death to individuals. Since Felix is not a human, instead, a lowly employee in The Ministry of Death, he could simply traverse earth in the shadows. In order to attain his aims, Felix should rotate sunlight to manipulate the shadows and browse every level.

Beneath the veneer of Felix the Reaper‘s inherently black subject matter is a refreshing sense of levity. Felix is only on the planet killing people because he’s looking to impress his love interest, a girl named Betty who works to the Ministry of Life. Lightening the mood further, Felix moves around each phase by dancing, an ability not often credited to an angel of death.
